What is an Intervention?

Huntington Creek Recovery Center recently partnered with KD Consulting Corp, a division of LifelineIntervention.com  to better assist families in helping their loved ones get help for their disease. We decided to break down what an intervention entails, and how HCRC and KD Consulting can help.

Simply put, an intervention is to set healthy boundaries in the family’s life and in the person in complete denial of their disease. In helping the family stay healthy to those boundaries, professional interventionists can assist in “lowering the bottom” of the addict or alcoholic, allowing them to realize the effect they are having on themselves and the people around them. Interventionists provide services to families in crisis. The ultimate goal of an intervention is to guide the afflicted patient to a place where he or she is more likely than not not willing to accept help. Interventionists also provide placement in a treatment center fully qualified to diagnose and treat the illness. In many cases, drug and alcohol abuse are the primary causes for concerns but there are other types of behaviors where an intervention is called for. This isn’t really black and white. There can be a multitude of underlying mental health issues that contribute to the substance abusers downfall.

Addiction and alcoholism affect the entire family, not just the user. Through the intervention process, the family begins to heal and set healthy boundaries and consequences for the user. In layman’s terms, the family will continue to love them and care for them, but they refuse to contribute to the patient’s incarceration or death. This way, the family and the patient can begin to heal together in a supportive, educational environment.

Huntington Creek Recovery Center has a multitude of intervention and treatment modalities once a patient is willing and reaches the facility. Some of these include, EMDR hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, outdoor recreational therapies, and an extensive post-intervention alumni follow up program.
